About Us

     CHURCH’S HISTORY

The first meeting of the church was prayer services held in the home of Sister Elizabeth Campbell on what was then known as Cove Road, now Craig Avenue.  Local Ministers who volunteered their services delivered the first sermons,  Later the prayer services were moved to home on the corner of White Oak and Calhoun Streets, the property of Rev. Walker Smith.  Rev. Smith was the first minister associated with the church as its pastor.  According to the corner stone inscription the church was founded in 1867.

Over the years, First Baptist Church has made numerous improvements to the physical structure and in many other areas.  Pastors, individual members, and church ministries made concerted efforts to enhance the church welfare.  Each decade, significant changes were realized.

Love, faith and loyalty have always been the strength of the Church.  In spite of the many global changes that are taking place, God’s presence is alive at First Baptist Church – Salem.

CHURCH MISSION

As followers of Christ, our mission is to evangelize the lost through personal soul-winning, visitation and preaching of the word of God.  To edify believers through the systematic teaching of the bible and to reach the masses through an energetic missionary program.
